The second edition of the award not only brings recognition, but also real financial support for the winners, who will receive EUR 100,000 each. The Chanel brand continues its mission to promote and support artists who boldly redefine their fields of art and culture. Chanel Next Prize winners come from six different countries: Great Britain, United States, Ireland, Brazil, Singapore and Georgia. Their work spans diverse fields such as visual art, film, dance, video game design, performance, opera and digital art.

The Chanel Next Prize was launched in 2021 as part of a global initiative called the Chanel Cultural Fund. Its aim was to accelerate the development of ideas that enrich culture, thus continuing the fashion house’s long tradition of patronage. Yana Peel, global director of arts and culture at Chanel, emphasized that the aim of the award is to strengthen the work of artists who not only change the face of the world, but also redefine the boundaries of their disciplines. Each winner was described as a catalyst and pioneer who disrupts established practices in their cultural field.

The jury panel consisted of famous figures such as: Tilda Swinton, Cao Fei, and Legacy curators Russell and Hans Ulrich Obrist. The winners include such outstanding figures as: Tolia Astakhishvili, Kantemir Balagov, Oona Doherty, Sam Eng, and Ho Tzu Nyen, as well as Fox Maxy, Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother, Dalton Paula, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, and Davóne Tines. Each of them represents not only exceptional talent, but also diversity in the art world, which is a fundamental element of Chanel’s heritage.
