“Dior Cruise” 2024- on its way to Mexico

Dior, as one of the world’s most famous fashion brands, often presents its collections at fashion shows and so-called fashion weeks. Nevertheless, it also organizes special events, such as shows on holiday ships, where you can see their designs. And as it turns out, such a cruise is coming soon. The fashion house has revealed that its collection “Dior Cruise” 2024 will present in Mexico City May 20. The exact location is not yet known.
Continuing the tradition
Those who have had the opportunity to delve into the brand’s activities know that its artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri combines fashion with culture and art in her approach to creation. In fact, she has been on board the brand since 2016. In her collections Chiuri often refers to the history, traditions and culture of different regions and nations. Just as often, she addresses social issues such as gender equality, feminism and diversity. Her collections for Dior reflect her strong beliefs and have, of course, won praise from fashion critics and supporters of the brand over the years.

After taking his collection on a cruise to Marrakech, Athens and Seville, last fall we had the opportunity to see the Dior show in Mumbai. It was held in collaboration with Chanakya, a Mumbai-based atelier and craft school for women. During it unusual Indian embroideries have been adapted for Dior’s exclusive style. And so this year the designer will continue her tradition of working with local artisans.
“Dior Cruise”-Mexico no longer just a thought
However, it turns out that this year’s event is not the fashion house’s first contact with this Latin American country. Indeed, for the spring 2019 “Dior Cruise” collection presented in the French city of Chantilly, the designer looked to the country for inspiration. “escaramuzas”-traditional Mexican women on horseback., “What I find most fascinating about the escaramuzas is that they perform a sport that is generally thought to be the domain of the ‘macho’ and they do it dressed in traditional, exceptionally beautiful and feminine dresses” are the words of Chiuri herself.

That’s why her models, at the Chateau de Chantilly, appeared wearing variously decorated and modified versions of those that dress. Analyzing the clothing of Mexican amazons, the creative director delved a little deeper into history. She also traced the styleadelitas– female soldiers who fought during the Mexican revolution between 1910 and 1920.These women were known for their fondness for red lips, massive silver jewelry and voluminous embroidered skirts.
Tourist boom
An interesting aspect when choosing unusual destinations for the brand’s shows, is the promotion of the venue itself. After all, Dior’s shows are huge events in the fashion world, attended by designers, fashion editors and celebrities from all over the world. Hosting such an event therefore naturally attracts media attention, which contributes to a potential increase in tourism revenue. This seems to be an added advantage of such events, and the current artistic director is well aware of this.
“For Maria Grazia Chiuri, each cruise collection is like a dream map, a celebration of the world’s skills and cultures. In the case of this unique show, which will be presented in Mexico City,The house wants to pay tribute to the grandeur of Mexico’s heritage. Through these exciting dialogues, the creative director will highlight some of the emblematic characters and creativity of this country, which has been dear to Dior’s heart since the house’s inception in 1947, the fashion house announced in an official statement.
