The Wonder Child of Pop Art – Janusz Orzechowski

Janusz Orzechowski is an artist from a completely different plane. He treats painting like a futuristic adventure, straight out of a colorful fairy tale. He clearly goes against the current with his art. I love such breaking of schemes and drawing a whole bunch of fresh ideas. Pop art freely translated means popular art. However, in this case, it is rather art broken with a surrealist twist. I invite you to the interview and get acquainted with the art of Mr. Janusz Orzechowski.

Welcome
Please tell us how your adventure with art began?
In fact, it all started in earnest in college.I chose the universities according to my interest, of course, and there, under the guidance of professionals, I honed my skills in drawing painting and graphic design.

What is your biggest inspiration?
I like traveling nature and film. In my early teens I was inspired by comics and computer games. All of this was an outgrowth of today’s style.
Pop Art or Surrealism?
I use and combine the two styles. Pop-Art. In my case it’s comic book collages, and surrealism is the so-called post apocalyptic landscapes.
In what direction do your paintings go, what are they an expression of?
In post apocalyptic landscapes I try to show the triumph of nature over the ruins of modern human civilization.
From what I see you love large format paintings, please tell me what is the reason for this? Do they look better in interiors?
The large format is a better effect in the interior, but also it is easier to paint such pictures and you can fit more on them.

In your works I see a lot of tangents with cartoon characters. They recur in many paintings, where does this fascination with cartoon characters come from?
As I mentioned at the beginning, the inspiration came from comic books and computer games. As we have seen over the past few years, comic book characters in cinema are experiencing a renaissance.
What interior style best suits your painting?
I would describe my style as realism, collage, pop art, surrealism and figurative art.
Does young art today strongly look to the street for inspiration and what’s happening in the wider mass media?
My paintings sometimes resemble street art, but I have never painted on walls. As for Social Media, it’s a great tool for promoting the arts and attracting customers.
What is the largest painting you have done?
My largest work to date is a “hexaptic,” that is, a painting consisting of six pieces each 100x100cm in size, which together made it one meter high and three meters long.

Is the intermingling of characters, cultures and eras in painting your idea?
Yes but later I saw many such works. In this field, it’s hard to come up with something innovative anymore.
Who is the buyer of your works?
I used to sell paintings in Warsaw. I am currently operating with a stationary gallery in Paris.Customers from abroad Europe and further afield appeared,
According to Jan Orzechowski, in what direction is today’s art moving?
Tough question. At one point I thought abstraction would dominate painting. But I see more and more works that are very good workshop, figurative drawing from the old masters.
What topics will you never take on?
Everything has its limits I don’t like things that exceed them.

The craziest painting you have done?
There were some of these. I think I would choose “Battle in the Dream Factory” interpretation of “Battle of Grunwald” canvas in size 100x200cm about 200 characters from the game cartoon film mixed on the set of a painting by Matejko.
Is Pop Art aimed at the eccentric or the sophisticated art lover?
I often don’t know the end customer of my paintings when sales are made through a gallery so I don’t always know the recipients personally.
Final question. What will be the next theme of your painting?
The latest idea I have already started painting is futuristic cityscapes in the cyber punk style inspired by the movie Blade Runner.
Thank you for the nice conversation, I wish you continued success in creating such fascinating works and I keep my fingers crossed for our cooperation!
