Although it’s still summer outside, designers are already hard at work preparing their collections for the second half of the year. The luxury fashion house Burberry decided not to wait any longer and unveiled its winter collection to the world on Wednesday. The Burberry Fall/ 2023 collection was shot by Tyrone Lebon in stunning British locations. We could admire the gorgeous looks on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and at the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. The campaign was created with a strong emphasis on Burberry’s British DNA. Burberry in a new look

After the spring/summer 2023 collection show, the brand announced that its current creative director, Riccardo Tisci, would be stepping down. During his career at Givenchy, Tisci earned acclaim for his innovative designs that blended elements of haute couture with street fashion. His task upon joining Burberry in 2018 was to revitalize the brand and transform it into a modern, global label. And he certainly succeeded. However, he was succeeded by a young designer who also already had considerable experience in the industry.

Daniel Lee gained recognition in the fashion industry for his innovative and sophisticated designs for Bottega Veneta. He served as the creative director of the Italian fashion house from June 2018. Under Lee’s leadership, Bottega Veneta undeniably became one of the most coveted fashion houses. His work received acclaim in the fashion world, and Lee won numerous awards, including Designer of the Year at the 2019 British Fashion Awards ceremony.

It is evident that the new director has been implementing significant changes to the brand’s visual identity since taking over from Riccardo Tisci. While his debut campaign for Burberry focused on London, the winter campaign aimed to reflect the brand’s founding principle — effective protection while exploring the outdoors and capturing the “spirit of exploration and adventure.”

Burberry Collection 2023 – native beauty of the landscape

Daniel Lee chose two extraordinary locations for his latest collection, drawn by their mysterious, epic beauty. Although these places are very different, both are distinctly British. Skye is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides archipelago, known for its breathtaking landscapes, castles, and small fishing villages. Meanwhile, the Giant’s Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the north coast of Northern Ireland. It features 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by an ancient volcanic eruption.

In this truly breathtaking setting, we watched members of the Burberry family. The campaign featured, among others, Faye Wei Wei, Jake Hodder, Kesewa Aboah, and Kit Butler. The Burberry Fall/Winter 2023 collection, unveiled less than two weeks after the spring launch, transported us to a completely different world—one filled with icy peaks, vast stretches of greenery, and a sense of comfort and ease that everyone longs for during winter adventures.

What was the Burberry Fall/Winter 2023 collection like

The latest campaign thus showcases a distinctly outdoor wardrobe designed to protect, keep warm, and lift the spirits. In addition to classic Burberry trench coats, there are also field jackets and blankets, while argyle sweaters are paired with rain boots, tights, and turtlenecks. Bold rose motifs and duck patterns also make an appearance, the latter of which featured prominently on Lee’s autumn runway.

The Knight Bag also takes center stage as the brand’s new hero piece, rapidly gaining immense popularity. Its soft silhouette adds a touch of elegance and sophistication that the brand is renowned for. Additionally, it features a clip and showcases a charging horse from the updated Burberry Equestrian Knight design. It’s also highly functional, serving both as a shoulder bag and a crossbody. The Burberry Fall/Winter 2023 collection surprises with its form, yet, true to the brand’s spirit, delivers a strong vision and shapes fashion narratives, putting Britishness at the forefront.
