Colm Dillane the new designer at Louis Vuitton?

A few days ago, the fashion world was abuzz with news of an unexpected collaboration between Colm Dillane and the renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton. It is now official that at the upcoming menswear show on January 19, a menswear collection created over the past few months in the Paris studio will be unveiled. Dillane and Louis Vuitton are certainly an intriguing combination, which inevitably raises the question: has Vuitton found Virgil Abloh’s successor in KidSuper?
Colm Dillane — the new hope of the media?
Dillane, born in 1991 in New York, is the multimedia artist behind KidSuper, a hybrid art brand. As he emphasizes himself: “KidSuper is an idea born from the desire to dream and to rediscover the wonder of being a child.” This idea of immersing oneself again in the world of childhood imagination drives the brand’s projects, which are full of creativity and the joy of creation. The brand itself has come a long way to gain recognition. It was, for example, twice rejected by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode when applying to present at Paris Digital Fashion Week.
“It was never about being accepted, it’s about the journey and unrealistic goals!” the designer declared at the time. In 2021, however, KidSuper was recognized for its unconventional approach to fashion, receiving the Karl Lagerfeld LVMH Prize. Undoubtedly, it is now one of the most innovative brands in the industry, and their clothes are gaining new fans. It’s likely that the collaboration between Dillane and Louis Vuitton will only further boost its popularity.
Louis Vuitton in search of a successor
In November 2021, the fashion house bid farewell to the remarkable designer Virgil Abloh. The death of the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear line and founder of the streetwear brand Off-White was a tremendous blow to the entire fashion world. It soon emerged that since 2019, Abloh had been battling a rare form of cancer—cardiac angiosarcoma.

” We are all shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a brilliant designer and visionary, but also a person with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family shares in this profound sorrow; our thoughts are with his loved ones as they say goodbye to a husband, father, brother, and friend. “
Since then, the brand has built its operations on the powerful legacy left by Virgil Abloh, along with his team and collaborators such as stylist Ib Kamara and set designer Lina Kutsovskaya. As a result, in recent years there have been a series of tribute shows to honor the memory of the director and designer. Louis Vuitton did not rush to find a successor to such a remarkable figure. The media saw the news of the collaboration with Dillan as an opportunity for a new heir to emerge for the brand.
Despite headlines such as “Dillane the successor of Louis Vuitton,” the fashion house has declined to comment on the matter. We still don’t know when the permanent creative director of menswear will be announced. For now, the media and journalists will have to settle for the result of the collaboration between visionary KidSuper and the legendary fashion house. The men’s collection created in collaboration between Colm Dillane and Louis Vuitton is set to be unveiled to the world in just a few days.
