Colm Dillane the new Louis Vuitton designer?
A few days ago, the fashion world was informed about Colm Dillane’s unexpected cooperation with the renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton. It is already officially known that the next men’s clothing show on January 19 will feature a men’s clothing collection created over the last few months in a Parisian studio. Dillane and Louis Vuitton are certainly an interesting combination, it’s impossible not to ask the question: whether Vuitton has found Virgil Abloh’s successor in KidSuper?
Colm Dillane, the media’s new hope?
Dillane, born in 1991 in New York, is the multimedia artist behind KidSuper, a hybrid art brand. As he emphasizes: “KidSuper is an idea that arose from the desire to dream and rediscover the wonder of being a child.” This thought of again immersing yourself in the world of children’s imagination drives the brand’s projects, full of creativity and the joy of creation. The brand itself has come a long way to being noticed. We’re talking about being rejected twice by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to present at Digital Fashion Week in Paris.
“It was never about being accepted, it was about the journey and unrealistic goals!” the designer declared at the time. In 2021, however, the KidSuper brand was recognized for its unconventional approach to fashion, receiving the Karl Lagerfeld LVMH Award. Undoubtedly, it is currently one of the most innovative propositions in the industry, and their clothes are gaining new supporters. So it’s likely that Dillane’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton will only contribute to its increase in popularity.
Louis Vuitton in search of a successor
In November 2021, the fashion house said goodbye to the great designer Virgil Abloh. The death of the artistic director of the Louis Vuitton men’s line and the founder of the streetwear brand Off-White was a huge blow to the entire fashion world. It quickly turned out that Abloh had been struggling with a rare form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma, since 2019.
“We are all shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a brilliant designer and visionary, but also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family is united in great sadness, we all think of his loved ones as they say goodbye to their husband, father, brother and friend.”.
Since then, the brand has based its activities on the powerful legacy left behind by Virgil Abloh and his team and collaborators, such as stylist Ib Kamara and set designer Lina Kutsovskaya. As such, a series of tribute shows have taken place in recent years to honor the memory of the director and designer. Louis Vuitton was in no hurry to find a successor to such a great personality. The media perceived the information about cooperation with Dillan as an opportunity for a new successor to the brand.
Despite the headlines: “Dillane is the successor of Louis Vuitton”, the fashion house refused to comment on this topic. We still don’t know when the permanent creative director for menswear will be announced. For now, the media and journalists will have to be satisfied only with the fruit of the joint work of the KidSuper visionary and the legendary fashion house. The Colm Dillane and Louis Vuitton collaboration men’s clothing collection is scheduled to be released in just a few days.
