A few days ago, the fashion world was abuzz with news of Colm Dillane’s unexpected collaboration with the esteemed fashion house Louis Vuitton. It’s now official that the upcoming menswear show on January 19 will feature the menswear collection created over the past couple of months at the Paris studio. Dillane and Louis Vuitton are certainly an interesting combination, one can’t help but ask the question: Whether Vuitton has found a successor to Virgil Abloh in KidSuper?

Colm Dillane the new hope of the media?

Born in 1991 in New York, Dillane is the multimedia artist behind KidSuper, a hybrid art brand. As he emphasizes:, “KidSuper is an idea that came from the desire to dream and rediscover the wonder of being a child. This thought of rediscovering immersion into the world of children’s imagination drives the brand’s designs, full of creativity and joy of creation. The brand itself has come a long way, to being noticed. We’re talking about being rejected twice by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to present at the digital fashion week in Paris.

“It was never about being accepted, it’s about the journey and unrealistic goals!”the designer declared at the time. In 2021, however, the KidSuper brand was recognized for its out-of-the-box approach to fashion by receiving the Karl Lagerfeld LVMH Award. Undoubtedly, it is now one of the more innovative offerings in the industry, and their clothes are gaining new followers. So it is likely that the collaboration between Dillane and Louis Vuitton will only add to its popularity.

Louis Vuitton in search of a successor

In November 2021, the fashion house bid farewell to celebrated designer Virgil Abloh. The death of the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s line and founder of streetwear brand Off-White was a huge blow to the entire fashion world. It quickly became clear that Abloh had been struggling with a rare form of cancer, hemangiosarcoma of the heart, since 2019.

We are all shocked by this terrible news. Virgil was not only a brilliant designer, a visionary, but also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom. The LVMH family is united in great sorrow, and we are all thinking of his loved ones, saying goodbye to a husband, father, brother or friend.”.

Since then, the brand has built on the powerful legacy that Virgil Abloh left behind with his team and collaborators, such as stylist Ib Kamara and set designer Lina Kutsovskaya. Accordingly, a series of tribute shows have taken place in recent years to honor the director and designer. Louis Vuitton was therefore in no hurry to find a successor to such a great personality. The media perceived the news of the collaboration with Dillan as an opportunity for the emergence of a new successor to the brand.

Despite headlines under the title:, “Dillane the successor to Louis Vuitton”, the fashion house declined to comment on the subject. We still do not know when the permanent creative director for menswear will be announced. For the time being, the media and journalists will have to content themselves only with the fruit of the joint work of the KidSuper visionary and the legendary fashion house. The menswear collection in collaboration between Colm Dillane and Louis Vuitton is set to be released to the world in just a few days.
