Chanel in Hong Kong

Hong Kong attracted the fashion world for a major event—the replica show of the Chanel Cruise 2025 collection. Around 2,000 guests, including numerous brand ambassadors, gathered to celebrate the special occasion of the Chanel show in Hong Kong. This year’s cruise collection carried particular significance, as it was the last designed by Virginie Viard, known as the brand’s ” black swan,” who unexpectedly stepped down as creative director in June. While speculation continues about her successor, Chanel has yet to announce a new artistic leader. For the upcoming seasons, the French fashion house will continue its projects with its in-house design team. They will be responsible for the upcoming Métiers d’Art show in Hangzhou, haute couture in January, and the show by Lake Como.
Chanel in Hong Kong: what was the atmosphere like at the show?
The Cruise 2025 collection show took place in the spacious interiors of the Hong Kong Design Institute, where invited guests had the opportunity to admire the latest Chanel designs inspired by seaside motifs. The collection featured dresses adorned with marine creature patterns, swimsuits tied with bows and the signature tweed jackets, this time enhanced with diving hoods. This unique blend of elegance and nautical ease also referenced the coastal atmosphere of Marseille, where the collection was first unveiled.

After the show, guests also had the opportunity to continue the evening at one of Hong Kong’s legendary film locations – Shaw Studios. Founded in the 1930s, this studio played a key role in establishing Hong Kong as the “Hollywood of the East.” Chanel also has its own history there. It was at Shaw Studios that the first Hong Kong show by Karl Lagerfeld took place in 2006.
A symbolic nod to the Chinese market
The choice of venue was no coincidence. This is not Chanel’s first appearance in Hong Kong. For years, the brand has emphasized the importance of this city, which is one of its key markets in Asia. With 10 boutiques, it is one of the few places in the world (alongside Paris) where Chanel has such a strong presence. The brand opened its first boutique there back in 1979, in the luxurious Peninsula hotel. Just last year, it signed one of the largest post-pandemic lease agreements—a two-level pop-up, “The Magical House of Chanel.” All of this is proof of the brand’s strong position and trust in the local market.
