Burberry’s new look
Following the Spring/Summer 2023 collection show, the brand announced that its current creative director, Riccardo Tisci is stepping down from his position. During his career at Givenchy, Tisci has earned acclaim for his innovative designs that combine elements of haute couture with street fashion. His task after joining Burberry in 2018 was to revitalize the brand and transform it into a modern and global brand. And he certainly succeeded. However, his place was taken by a young designer who also already had a lot of experience in the industry
Daniel Lee has made a name for himself in the fashion industry with his innovative and sophisticated designs for the Bottega Veneta brand. He had been creative director of the Italian fashion house since June 2018. Under Lee’s leadership, Bottega Veneta has undoubtedly become one of the most coveted fashion houses. His work has gained recognition in the fashion world, and Lee has received numerous awards, including the title of Designer of the Year at the 2019 British Fashion Awards.

It can be seen that the new director has been making sweeping changes to the brand’s visual identity since he took over from Riccardo Tisci. While his debut campaign for Burberry focused on London, the winter campaign aimed to a reflection of the brand’s founding principle, that is, effective protection while exploring the outside world and capturing the “spirit of exploration and adventure.”
Burberry 2023 collection-native landscape beauty
Daniel Lee chose for his latest collection two remarkable locations, guided by their mysterious, epic beauty. Although they are very different places, both are distinctly British. Skye is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides archipelago, known for its beautiful landscapes, castles and small fishing villages. The Giant’s Causeway, on the other hand, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the northern coast of Northern Ireland. It contains 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that were formed by the eruption of an ancient volcano.
In what was certainly a breathtaking scene, we observed members of the Burberry family. The campaign featured, among others Faye Wei Wei, Jake Hodder, Kesewa Aboah and Kit Butler. Burberry’s autumn/winter 2023 collection, which came less than two weeks after the spring launch, took us to a completely different world full of icy peaks, vast stretches of greenery, and the comfort and convenience that everyone so desires during winter trips.

What was Burberry’s fall/winter 2023 collection like
Thus, the latest campaign presents a closet of typical outdoorsy garments designed to protect, warm and uplift. Burberry’s typical trench coats are also joined by field jackets and blankets, and argyle sweaters are paired with wellies, tights and turtlenecks. There were also expressive pieces in pinks and duck patterns, the latter of which were abundant on Lee’s fall runway.
Also heavily featured were Handbag Knight, the brand’s new hero, which has been gaining a lot of popularity recently. Its soft style adds to the elegance and sophistication with which the brand always presents itself. In addition, it comes with a clip and depicts a charging horse from an updated Equestrian Knight design by Burberry. It’s also extremely functional, and can be used as both a shoulder bag and a satchel. Burberry’s autumn/winter 2023 collection surprises in form, but still, as befits the brand creates strong visions and creates fashion narratives, putting Britishness first.
