Premium product – let’s talk about wood part 1

When, more than 8 years ago, I decided to offer real luxury in Poland, I did not know what it really was premium product.

As time went on, I discovered lands hitherto unknown to me, and with them the truth about the production of impeccable luxury. At times it was a brutal school that taught me that not everything called luxury has to be so….

Prelude – a premium product

I took my first steps towards the extremely expensive and grandiose goods, thinking that this was the obvious luxury. There I could experience the taste, touch and smell of super premium essences.

In general, extremely important are the raw materials used, which form a holistic picture like a creator’s hand. This is the invariable basis from which to start designing the desired goods.

Natural and rare wood species, such asEbony, mahogany, amboine, cherry, or rosewood are the salt of the earth of the true face of what a premium product is.

Exotic trees, like gemstones, are in limited supply, which is constantly shrinking. That’s why it forms the starting base in a huge number of goods.

You think – it’s just furniture, you are wrong! Prestigious wood is everywhere today. Floors, paneling, yachts, agd, cars, airplanes and everything where this divine raw material can be used.

Every year the price of a cubic meter of succulent luxury wood increases. Commensurate with demand, therefore, it is in pure premium product.

Case study – wood chess as a premium product

The fascination of wood is linked to our nature, nature and man. Invariably, for thousands of years, we have been inextricably linked with this raw material.

The result is a decent and huge attachment to the tree as a companion in our lives.

A great example of the use of good quality wood varieties, is the Italian chess manufacturer Italfama. This is a brand, with more than 40 years of tradition.

This manufactory knows how wood blends with chess boards. Using carefully selected species, it designs a true premium product.

This is what niche, prestige andthe foundation of luxury. Something to look for, in order to offer all true gourmet quality.

Price as one of the factors of a premium product

I’m sure you’re wondering if the price is adequate for such a manufactured product. Let me give you some examples.

A large checkerboard made of heather and elm wood, measuring 51x51x1.8 cm, costs about £895.

The chess board, made of African bubinga wood and measuring 51x51x1.8 cm, already costs more than $900.

The original chess board, in the form of a box, with a pull-out drawer, made of rosewood, measuring 47x36x7 cm, costs about 1,200 zlotys.

The rosewood and maple board, measuring 38x38x2 cm, costs more than $400.

The walnut wood chessboard, measuring 42x42x1.8 cm, is within the 800 zl.

As we can see, good quality wood, does not have to be very expensive. On the other hand, it differs significantly, from standard and mass-produced chess pieces.

The price is a result of, the supply of high quality wood, the degree of difficulty of producing the final commodity and many other factors.

Brand Italfama, is a classic example of the use of wood in the process of creating a premium product.

A case study of wood joining - a premium product

Plenty of global companies combine wood with other raw materials. And it often looks really impressive, exclusive and extremely prestigious.

There are quite a few techniques and the very connections of wood as a manufacturing material. I, however, fell in love with the duo of natural leather and wood.

For me, it’s an exceptionally holistic and successful marriage, certainly not by any stretch of the imagination! From the first moment, you can see the consistency and the beating sincerity in how the item looks made with such a technique.

A perfect example is the Hergo cabinet chair by R.A. Mobili. Never in my life, have I experienced such a sense A deep fascination with the seating furniture.

It is expressive, heavy, with a distinctly massive body. The sense of just this meatiness is given by two raw materials – natural leather and wood.

I can’t imagine using other materials in this place and on this product. This is how I always imagined a perfect and complete item made of even more perfect raw materials.

Sitting on leather is very symbolic in a person’s life and also very majestic. We feel extremely elite when we smell this luxurious material.

From the rear, heavy and massive selected wood protects us, giving comfort and a sense of security.

And although many of you, will consider 40,000 thousand zlotys as a big expense, for me this exclusive chair is worth any price.

Wood fashion – it was, it is and it will be!

Will exotic and rare varieties of wood, always be in the circle of our desires? As our history shows, it is a unique raw material, endowed with great respect by man.

Wood has given us warmth, shelter and enjoyment for thousands of years. The less of it, the more valuable and sought after it is.

Today, I can’t imagine the premium industry without this material. It is one of the basic ingredients and a classic example of its use in luxury.

And is it luxury that can do without high-quality trees? The answer is trivial – of course not.
