Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2016.

Yesterday we received fresh and fragrant catalogs – ” pen of the year 2016 Graf von Faber-Castell brand ”. If you want to know what product is made of inflamed maple, gold and onyx – this article is for you!
It all started with an exciting inspiration…..
The 2016 pen of the year refers to the history of the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. It was she who brought tiles from oriental China to her Schönbrunn Palace. The luxurious panels were made at the imperial manufactory in Beijing.

The black lacquer tiles were set in maple wood paneling and decorated with gilded frames. Hence the direct finish of this unusual pen!
Who made the pen of the year 2016? – A few words about the artists and their project
In designing the 2016 Pen of the Year collection, Graf von Faber-Castell invited Vieux-Laque room conservator Silvi Miklin and Japanese artist Tomizo Saratani, who specializes in the Maki-e technique.

What they created together exceeded their wildest expectations. They divided the design of the special motif into three parts, and each part was coated with black lacquer, to be then subjected to the lacquering and firing process.
This complicated process ended with the coating of the motif with gold and varnish.
The 2016 Pen of the Year is very appealing because of the materials used in production. The barrel is covered with panels made of black onyx and flamed maple. All of this is set in platinum bezels. The pen’s cap is crowned with hand-polished black onyx in diamond cut.

For me personally, these are the greatest qualities of this exclusive pen!
Each of these unique writing instruments is packaged in a lacquered wooden case. The pen is also individually numbered.
Just so that there is no doubt about the raw materials used, you will find a certificate with the signature of a gemstone master from the Herbert Stephan manufactory in Idar Oberstein confirming the authenticity of the onyx used. Artist Tomizo Saratani himself supervised the paintings in 24K gold.

Collection limit
As usual, such pens are limited. The most valuable ones in the gold version are 120 fountain pens and 50 ballpoint pens. In the platinum version, 500 fountain pens and 150 ballpoint pens!
A ballpoint pen in platinum version in the www.luxuryproducts.pl store is 13760 zloty, while a fountain pen is about 2 thousand more.

For the gold-plated edition, we will pay PLN 30960 and PLN 32250, respectively.
Perhaps for many these sums will prove to be a prohibitive barrier. On the other hand, I personally recommend investing and diversifying your money into such an elite and limited product. A sizable portion of the collection is aimed at private buyers. The second segment is companies and their valuable contractors.
It is undoubtedly a one-of-a-kind pen, so it will certainly find many recipients in Poland, which I strongly encourage.
