One of the most expensive paintings in Polish art is ”New York” by Max Weber, depicting the city of New York. The work, painted in oil in 1912, was sold for $1,659,500.

So far, very few artists from our country can boast such an amount of money.

Max’s career

Max Weber studied under Arthur Wesley Dow at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn from 1899 to 1900. He then went to Paris, where he attended the Académie Julian.

In France, the artist reflects a broad spectrum of revolutionary art, which also influences his later stay in the United States. At the American Artists Congress, he openly speaks about his leftist political sympathies.

In his prolific body of work, Max Weber drew inspiration from Fauvism and Cubism, later becoming fascinated by Expressionism and Abstraction.

According to Weber: “To come across a work of art by chance or en passant is a very pleasant experience; but encountering a painting, the spirit of its creator, is a participatory vision that brings not joy, but exaltation.”
